Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24 72, in Long Beach, CA. DuVernay was introduced to art from her grandmother Denise. She worked as an evening nurse in order to give her aunt to have the time she needed during the day for the love of art, literature, and theatre. She showed DuVernay to the film of 1961 West Side Story and DuVernay became enthralled by the film. DuVernay was taught by her mother that art can be used to promote activism. DuVernay was trained by her mother with a conscience for social issues, and pushed DuVernay to exhibit her artistic talents. DuVernay spent her summers in Lowndes County Alabama, where her father was born and brought up. Her father recalled the protests for civil rights that took place over the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the Selma town that was nearby, Alabama. DuVernay was strongly influenced by her time in Selma and decided to make the documentary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California in 1990. She began as an intern with CBS News during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalls being asked to look over the rubbish at the home of a member of jury. DuVernay was dissatisfied with her journalistic duties and decided to switch over to the field of public relations. DuVernay began her career as a junior assistant to publicity in a tiny film studio following her graduation from college. She was promoted to the position and set up her own public relations company known as The DuVernay Agency in 1999. The company launched a number of promotional and lifestyle networks which include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
